Therapy or Counseling for Tween & Adolescent

Growing up isn't easy. Between school, friendships, family expectations, social media, and trying to figure out who you are, it can sometimes feel like there's a lot to carry. You may find yourself feeling anxious, overwhelmed, sad, angry, disconnected, or simply unsure of where you fit. Whatever you're experiencing, you don't have to navigate it alone.

At Intentional Wellness & Consulting, we provide therapy and counseling for tweens and adolescents in Morgantown, WV for young people who want to better understand what they are feeling, why certain patterns keep showing up, and how to move through life with more confidence, support, and self-understanding.

Our work is integrative, root-focused, and trauma-informed. We look at the whole person, including emotions, relationships, family dynamics, school stress, identity, nervous system responses, past experiences, and the pressures that can make this stage of life feel especially difficult.

As therapy progresses, our focus shifts from simply reducing distress to helping tweens and teens build skills, understand themselves more fully, and feel less alone in what they are carrying.

We aren’t simply trying to help young people “calm down” or “get over it.”

We aim to help our clients:
understand their emotions,
build practical coping skills,
strengthen communication,
increase confidence,
improve relationships,
and develop a stronger sense of self.

Our goal is not to define a young person by what they are struggling with. It is to help them understand themselves with more clarity, compassion, and support.

Feeling Stuck

When Growing Up Feels Heavy

The tween and teen years can bring a lot of change at once. School pressure, friendships, family expectations, changing bodies, identity questions, online comparison, and big emotions can all begin to feel like too much.

Some young people become anxious or overwhelmed. Others withdraw, shut down, become irritable, struggle with motivation, or seem like they are carrying something they do not know how to explain. Sometimes the signs are obvious. Sometimes they are easy to miss because a young person is still getting good grades, showing up, or trying hard to seem fine.

Therapy can help create space to slow things down, understand what is happening underneath the behavior or emotion, and build healthier ways to cope, communicate, and connect.

That is where deeper work begins.

Deeper Support

Root-Focused Teen Care

Our goal is to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and respected. Together, we'll work to better understand what's contributing to the challenges you're facing while helping you build practical skills to manage emotions, strengthen relationships, increase confidence, and navigate life's ups and downs. We believe that the struggles you're experiencing do not define who you are - they're opportunities to better understand yourself, discover your strengths, and grow.

At Intentional Wellness & Consulting, therapy for tweens and adolescents is not only about managing symptoms or changing behavior. It is about understanding what those symptoms or behaviors may be trying to communicate.

We pay attention to anxiety, sadness, anger, shutdown, stress, identity development, peer relationships, family dynamics, school pressures, trauma, grief, and nervous system responses. The goal is to help young people feel seen and supported while also building practical tools they can use in real life.

This work is not about judging, blaming, or forcing a young person to talk before they are ready. It is about building trust, strengthening emotional awareness, and helping them develop skills that support growth, confidence, and connection.

Thoughtful Process

What Therapy Looks Like

Tween and adolescent therapy begins with getting to know the fuller picture of what is happening, not just the symptoms, behavior, or concern that brought you in.

We will talk about what life feels like right now, what has been hard, what has changed, what helps, and what patterns keep showing up at home, school, with friends, and within the young person’s own thoughts and emotions.

While therapy is your space, we also believe parents and caregivers are valuable partners in the healing process. When appropriate and with respect for your privacy and developmental needs, we work collaboratively with families to strengthen communication, deepen understanding, and support meaningful, lasting change.

From there, the therapist will work with the young person and, when appropriate, their caregivers to develop a plan that is personal, practical, and grounded in real life. This may include building emotional regulation skills, improving communication, strengthening confidence, exploring identity, supporting healthy boundaries, processing stress or trauma, and helping the family better understand how to support change.
